I noticed that more than a few users moved to the Bradley Smoker digital electric smoker model after owning one of the previously mentioned Masterbuilt electric smokers. The consensus seems to be that they sometimes found the Masterbuilt models challenging as far as keeping consistent smoke levels going. Some of the literature says 9 hours, but 7 to 8 seems to be more the norm. NOTE: The automatic bisquette feed is a great plus for ease-of-use. As previously mentioned, Bradley Smoker provides a great deal of ease in managing the heat and smoke output via their fuel delivery system.
On the whole, users report better than average assistance when problems with these electric smokers do arise. Again — proper cleaning of this part of the smoker by removing the feeding mechanism and clearing out any debris should do a lot to keep the unit is proper working order.
One last area of concern is that the temperature settings on the digital units sometimes vary between 10 and 15 degrees from what the insulated body of the electric smokers actually experiences.
We all learn the ins and outs of our equipment i. The Smokin Tex electric smoker model Pro pictured above is a great option. With an watt heating supply, this unit has no problem holding steady temperatures. Each Smokin Tex electric smokers model is made from stainless steel and is designed for ease of use and portability.
The cabinets in these units are also well-insulated and require minimal amounts of wood in order to achieve very good amounts of clean, consistent smoke. This is because there is little air circulation inside the smoker, which also helps keep your meat from drying out on you. True fact, users say that this bad boy operates just as well in cold weather as it does in summer, due to the insulated lid and walls. My goal here with BBQBeat. I enjoyed this post on electric smokers.
I have been looking for an electric or propane smoker to buy, and this article has been really helpful. I enjoyed the presentation for Smokin Tex. I think the Smokin Tex is the cooker I will order. Thanks for all your info…Great Job. Keep up the good work. Roy, Virginia Beach, VA.
Hey Roy! The Smokin Tex Pro series is a great machine. If you are serious about electric smokers, you have got to look at Cook Shack. Yes…these are more pricey than the ones reviewed here but the Super Smoker series is far and above superior to any of these electric smokers!
The biggest advantages are the insulated cabinet and the electronic thermostat. The insulation allows the smoker to maintain and recover from door openings in cold temps very quickly. Hey Ray! Thanks for your comment, man. I agree, Cook Shack makes amazing pellet smokers. I reference them and their products in the post I wrote up on Pellet Smokers. You can find that one here. Again, appreciate you stopping by the site! Your email address will not be published. Check Current Pricing on Amazon.
Bradley Building located in Columbus, GA. Comments I enjoyed this post on electric smokers. Thank you for your insights! We think the Masterbuilt Digital Electric Smoker is the best electric smoker for most people thanks to its excellent insulation, clever wood chip tray system, and low price.
The Masterbuilt digital electric smoker is an extremely easy to use smoker for someone just getting started smoking meat, or for anyone who wants to crank out barbecue without the fuss of a charcoal or offset smoker. The main cabinet of the smoker is made from steel with plastic trim, while the interior is made from aluminum.
The same panel also lets you control the cook time and also houses the on and off controls. The Masterbuilt heats up quickly and maintains a consistent internal temperature without any fiddling around.
You need to be careful shopping around on Amazon as there are a number of outdated models and they are confusingly labeled. Watch out for the old Masterbuilt logo with the sun coming over some mountains as this will mean the product is an old version. It also tends to get dirty which defies the point.
We should also point out that there is no built-in meat probe. The only other issue we have with the Masterbuilt electric digital smoker is the stingy day warranty. Read our full Char-Broil Deluxe review. The unit comes with a remote control that lets you view and adjust your temperature from the comfort of your home, as well as turn the smoker off if you need to.
You can also control the internal temperature and cooking time via the digital control panel on the tp of the smoker. This unit comes with a glass door which lets you see every rack in the smoker. The Char-Broil Deluxe is very sturdy and well constructed. The exterior walls are made of stainless steel and provide decent heat retention. The glass door is durable but you should note that some heat does radiate out so be careful if you have kids around.
You can use the meat temperature probe included to set your desired temperature, and then leave the smoker running until your food is ready. The unit will even cool down once the done temp is reached. Capacity wise, the Char-Broil should hold two good sized pork butts at once, or slabs of baby back ribs depending on size.
Read our full Masterbuilt Bluetooth Electric Smoker review. So Masterbuilt did something really clever and created a smoker that connects to your phone via Bluetooth. You can sit back, relax and control the temperature of your smoker with an app on your phone. You can power the smoker on or off, as well as adjust and monitor the temperature of your smoker. While your granddaddy might shake his head in despair at this generation, we think anything that combines barbecue with technology is worth celebrating.
The capacity is definitely one of the highlights of this smoker. Both models come with four adjustable racks which should give you plenty of room even when cooking for large groups of people. The actual range is only about 12 — 15 feet, and if you have walls in the way this can decrease even further.
And this feature is all about not having to leave the comfort of your house, so even if you have to leave your phone close to the door it still beats going outside into cold or wet weather! If you are buying this smoker solely because you can control it on your phone, you might be disappointed.
However, even if you never plan on using the Bluetooth features this is still an excellent electric smoker. Read our full Smokin Tex Pro Series review. The Smokin Tex Pro Series is built like a tank with double wall insulation and super tight rubber door seals.
We found the cooking process was to be extremely simple. Since the smoker is on the smaller side, it comes to temperature very quickly, so no warm-up period is needed. All you need to do is add wood to the removable wood chip pan, add your meat, and set the temperature dial. You can also use wood chunks if you like, but I was plenty pleased with the chips. To test out this smoker, I also cooked thick pork chops, two racks of baby back ribs I did need to cut them in half to get them to fit , and a large, pound pork shoulder.
It was nice not not to have to worry about running out of fuel during a long cook like with a pellet or charcoal grill. Even when you run out of wood chips the smoker keeps cooking. While a little extra space would be nice, you can easily work around it by moving your cooking racks around. If you want something a little bigger you could also look at the Smokein-it Model 2 which we cover in a bit more detail below.
What it lacks in name recognition, the Smokein-it makes up for in quality and size and earns the top spot for our favorite large electric smoker. While we were impressed with the insulation on the Masterbuilt, this smoker is built like a tank out of gauge stainless steel. Once the chamber heats up the temperature will level off and will stay at your desired temperature for hours on end.
While some people have pointed out that the low position of the thermostat means the smoker runs a little colder at the top, we would remind you to always measure the temperature where the meat is actually sitting. Electric smokers are already the cheapest type of smoker out there. Our top and runner-up selection already cost less than the budget pick in some of our other guides.
The Smoke Hollow offers a similar size, although with only 3 chrome coated adjustable grill racks. The digital control panel lets you set your temperature, and integrated thermostat controls the temperature for you. Get the latest price on Amazon. The Bradley Digital is a bit of a weird case. Made out of compressed sawdust, these bisquettes are similar to the pellets you use for a pellet grill, but can only be used on the Bradley to produce heat and smoke throughout the cooking process.
The 6 rack version has some upgrades over the original , such as upgraded digital control panel with improved heating controls, more precise temperature options and auto-off function. This smoker does have a lot of fans, and the wood disks it uses seem to work fairly well. With wood chips or pellets you are free to buy any old brand. They get both their heat and smoke directly from the charcoal, and they too can come in a few different styles.
This can be fine for chicken, but it will take some special care to prevent pork or more delicate meats from drying out. That keeps your ribs and brisket from drying out and helps regulate the temperature a bit better. Basic bullet smokers are among the cheapest on the market, but more full-featured and sturdy brands such as the Weber Smokey Mountain are widely used by competing barbecue chefs. An increasingly popular type is the pellet smoker, which uses a little more technology to get that direct wood-smoked flavor.
It uses hardwood pellets that burn more slowly than less refined wood chips, saving a little fuel and making the heat level more consistent. They also produce less ash and residue than more traditional fuels.
Pellet smokers can turn out some great flavor for relatively little effort, but the price point tends to be higher. Most of them are first and foremost for smoking meats and have plenty of internal racks. Their durability and smaller profile makes them more ideal for smaller patio spaces, but the tradeoff is less capacity for crowd-pleasing meals.
On the opposite side of the size spectrum, there are offset smokers. These units are broken into two chambers: A larger one reserved for the meat and main heating element, and a side compartment where wood or charcoal is burned. The smoke fills up the cooking chamber through a vent and gives the food an even, smooth flavor — provided it is well-designed with a proper airflow system.
Beware of cheaper offset smokers that will produce uneven heat distribution along with erratic flavor. Bear in mind that most smokers can do double duty as standard grills among other cooking methods , but all of them will take a bit of getting used to for the novice.
