For these genre questions, I think it would be really helpful if answerers could provide links to example songs maybe on youtube that typify each genre, so we can listen and hear the differences. Great answer. Add one more point. Techno is "Noisy from factory", so the elements of the sounds is more hard, cold, noisy. However, there are also other differences between the two that are more common. One of the biggest differences is on the technical side of things. Techno music is designed by musicians with a background in computer programming.
They usually involved a lot of music production, which is where they create music in a more live setting. The songs are usually slower and have a lot of low-end bass. Another big difference between techno and trance music is the tempo. In the latter, the music tends to be played in a fast tempo because many instruments are not used in the composition.
Most people who listen to techno music are playing at a high tempo because they have a hard time falling asleep at a lower tempo. While a lot of people prefer techno to slow music because it has a very deep sound, some people like it because of its high end. Right from the start, techno was notably more serious, based around a dark futuristic vision of the world. Early techno pioneers often site futurist theorists such as Alvin Toffler as an inspiration to their unique ethos.
Still there are plenty of exceptions to this distinction also. Certainly not as deep and pensive as techno but also stripped of the jubilant, celebratory nature of any house music that came before it. One common notion is that techno is faster than house. Most definitions have house starting around whereas techno starts at bpm. House has a smaller range only going up to around whereas techno often goes all the way up to beats per minute.
A whole slew of Theo Parrish releases, for example, tick all the techno boxes including being very authentically Detroit based but still groove at around bpm. Often techno purists will criticise house for being more commercial and accessible.
